Portrait of Lori Pittman Haas

Lori Pittman Haas

Partner | Group Leader, Real Estate

Lori represents commercial real estate clients in the acquisition, disposition, leasing, and development of commercial properties. Her clients range from national retailers whose businesses involve the use of hazardous materials to commercial real estate clients with various business interests, such as grocery stores, hardware stores, restaurants, hotels, oil change facilities, manufacturing, warehouses, trucking terminals, and the ownership and management of office buildings and mixed-use projects. Lori also has a robust leasing practice (representing landlords and tenants) for retail, office, warehouse, and manufacturing facilities with a mix of space leases and ground leases.

With a background working on the business side of real estate, Lori has a unique understanding of the goals and challenges her clients face. She effectively blends her legal skills and business acumen to achieve her clients’ objectives. Before attending law school, Lori was the real estate manager for a convenience store chain with approximately 1,000 stores located throughout seven Midwestern states, managing the company’s real estate portfolio and working on new store development.

Lori is a creative problem solver and has been involved in several complicated real estate transactions. For instance, she:

  • Facilitated several air split parcels to allow the sale of a theatre separate from the sale of an adjacent office building
  • Helped create commercial condominiums to enable several mixed-use projects to obtain New Markets Tax Credit financing
  • Handled a land swap transaction to facilitate a residential housing development
  • Advised on the acquisition of a significant piece of real estate, which became complicated when it was discovered that sellers had been charged with various federal crimes and working with the U.S. Department of Justice was the only way to close on acquisition
  • Assisted with the purchase of real estate out of foreclosure after the seller fled the United States to his home country in Africa and refused to return to the U.S.
  • Handled various lease disputes, including a sub-sublease with an unresponsive master landlord and a sub-subtenant whose office space flooded every time in rained.

As Group Leader of UB Greensfelder's Real Estate Practice, Lori enjoys helping junior associates succeed by providing training and mentorship. Outside the firm, Lori has participated for several years in the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association’s Real Estate Law Institute, serving on the “Current Developments” panel. Lori has received numerous accolades throughout her career. She is consistently recognized by Chambers USA and is included in both the Ohio Super Lawyers and The Best Lawyers in America® lists. One of her clients told Chambers USA that “Lori Pittman Haas has very strong levels of sophistication, client service and commercial awareness. Lori is outstanding and she is critical to our business.”
