Sometimes a one-time charitable gift isn't what you have in mind. When planned giving over time makes the most sense, we can help.
UB Greensfelder provides insightful guidance on a variety of techniques that allow clients to make tax-advantaged gifts to the charities of their choice. Contributions to favorite nonprofit organizations are often facilitated via various estate planning tools and strategies. Some of these tools include:
- Charitable Remainder Trusts: the donor retains an income stream derived from property ultimately passing to charity or directing that income stream to family members.
- Lifetime and Testamentary Charitable Lead Trusts: one or more charities receive an income stream for a period of time, with the remaining property passing to the donor’s family members.
- Private Foundation: an entity is established with the primary purpose of carrying out the donor’s established charitable goals by making grants to other tax-exempt organizations.
- Private Operating Foundation: a specific type of private foundation that spends most of its resources on operating charitable programs.
- Supporting Organizations: a nonprofit organization that is organized and operated exclusively to support a public charity.
Additionally, we help clients implement bespoke solutions that meet their unique needs and goals. We work with clients to make charitable gifts with complex restricted purposes both during life and at death. We also assist clients in making gifts of real estate where the clients retain a life interest in the property, and gifts of retirement accounts. We also help clients create endowments, scholarship programs, and other restricted gifts. In each of these situations, we work with clients’ designated charities to implement the gifts.
In addition to representing individuals in their charitable giving, we also represent several charitable entities, providing legal guidance on the formation and operation of the nonprofit organization. We can also assist by providing these entities in their fundraising efforts, including advising on state and federal compliance requirements.
