June 13, 2024 – UB Greensfelder LLP is pleased to announce that Jay A. Nathanson, partner in the Business Law and Tax practice groups, has been named one of the 25 honorees of the 2024 ICON Honors Awards presented by Missouri Lawyers Media. The ICON Honors recognize distinguished men and women 60 or older who have demonstrated notable, sustained success and strong leadership within and outside the field of law.

“Jay is universally respected within the firm and throughout the community and truly deserving of this ICON Honors Award,” said Kevin T. With a legal career spanning more than four decades, Nathanson’s extensive experience in tax advice and controversy matters equips him to counsel clients on those complexities, along with other corporate issues. His depth of knowledge in tax issues originated early in his career, working briefly for the IRS and for several years as a trial attorney for the Tax Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.

Nathanson’s career honors also include being named to The Best Lawyers in America® list, as Best Lawyers® Tax Law "Lawyer of the Year," to the Tax Law Power List of Missouri Lawyers Media, as St. Louis Small Business Monthly’s Best in Business Best Attorneys, and to the Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers lists. He also holds a rating of AV Preeminent® by Martindale-Hubbell® Peer Review Ratings™ and was recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice as an Outstanding Trial Attorney.

Nathanson is a former member of the Business Outreach Committee of St. Louis County Economic Council and the Mid-America Tax Conference where he served on its board of directors as secretary and chairman. He is a member of the American Bar Association, a fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel, and a member of the Missouri Bar Association, where he was former vice chair of the Taxation Law Committee.  

For 25 years, Nathanson has been an adjunct faculty member in the LL.M. taxation program at Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. He teaches a course on the differences in tax considerations between business entity types. In addition, Nathanson has frequently written and lectured on corporate and taxation topics for organizations including the Missouri Bar Association, the National Business Institute, and the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis.

Now in their seventh year, The ICON Honors are given to members of the Missouri legal community in recognition of their exemplary careers and longstanding commitment to the profession. Whether active or retired, honorees must hold or have held a senior position with significant decision-making authority for their firm or organization.

Missouri Lawyers Media honored the distinguished careers of 25 state and federal judges, founding partners, firm leaders, and long-serving practitioners at law firms during the 2024 ICON Honors held on June 13. Honorees also will be profiled online and in the June issue of Missouri Lawyers Weekly.
